The new trailer for the third season is probably 47% shots of the Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) in his shiny, tiny new ship with Grogu on his lap. “Being a Mandalorian is not just learning about how to fight,” he says, presumably to his small charge. “You also have to know how to navigate the galaxy. That way you’ll never be lost.”
And the galaxy is a very big place, as this planet-hopping trailer reminds us. Yes, Din Djarin is going back to Mandalore—but to Coruscant, too? And some other new places as well, no doubt.
Some expected familiar faces show up, including Peli Motto (Amy Sedaris) and Greef Karga (Carl Weathers), but there’s a definite sense that this trailer is holding back. We get the requisite mutterings about how something big and bad is happening out there, and a shot of the ruins of Mandalore, and a veritable Power Rangers lineup of differently outfitted Mandalorians, but unlike the first teaser, there’s no sign of Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff), who presumably still wants that Darksaber back.
There is a thrilling chase sequence, which is a must, and a very curious shot of a quartet of Jedi, which seems like something rather hard to come by in the post-Return of the Jedi era in which this show is set. Flashback? Connection to Ahsoka? In about six weeks, we’ll find out. The Mandalorian returns to Disney+ on March 1st.
